My daughter and I have been working on the ornaments for our black and white Christmas tree. When I first thought about the theme for this tree I started shopping at the local Walmart to see what they had in all black ornaments. Even though some of them were cute, they also just felt too commercialized and generic to me. Instead I have decided to use what ornaments I do have in black and white and and make the rest.
About fifteen years ago I made marbled Christmas ornaments for my co-workers. At the time I was unable to find clear class ornament at the local craft store and ended up soaking my colored ones in bleach water to get the original paint out of the glass. I then used acrylic craft paint for the new look. (This month I noticed that HGTV magazine made a similar ornament using fingernail polish and I hadn’t thought about using that before. Good idea for next time.)
For this project you will need the following supplies:
Small Dixie cups or any type of foam cup
Glass ornaments from your local craft store
Acrylic paints in colors of your choosing
As for our project, we again just used black, white, and silver acrylic paints. First you pour a stripe of each color into the glass ornaments, after removing the hanging clip, and slowly swirl the ornaments around until the paint blends together in the marbled effect.
