Another Thursday Pinterest Project Day.
Using some bleached pine cones, some leftover burlap fabric, and a wreath form for only $5.49, I was able to make an adorable wreath in about 10 minutes.
First I all, I followed several Pinterest pins I found about bleaching pine cones. There are several of them out there and I tried two of them and came out with the same results, so basically you can’t go wrong with any of the pins you can try out.
To bleach the pine cones, you add two parts bleach (I used 2 cups) to one part water (1 cup) in a bowl, making sure that the solution is enough to cover the pine cones. Pine cones will float so you will have to put a plate on top of the pine cones and added weight such as glass bowls to keep the pine cones submerged in the solution.
Leave the pine cones in the bleach solution for 48 hours. Afterwards, lay out the pine cones on paper towels to dry out. This may take up to a week for the pine cones to dry out and open back up. Or you can heat then in the oven at 275 degrees for 2 hours.
Please note: The pine cones will close up when they were wet, so it will take some time for them to dry out and open back up.
I have several projects planned for my bleached pine cones so be sure to check back for more projects.
To make the wreath I purchased an eight inch wreath form at the craft store.
You can purchase burlap ribbon or cut up burlap fabric into strips. I cut my burlap fabric into about two inch strips.
Using a hot glue gun to attach the burlap strips, I wrapped the entire wreath around and around with the burlap.
I used another burlap strip to make a simple bow for the bottom of the wreath and a smaller strip as a hanger.
Again, using the hot glue gun, I attached some bleached pine cones as decor, or the “flowers” for the wreath.
The pine cones were free from my front yard, the burlap fabric was leftover from another project but I probably used around 1/2 yard at $6.00 a yard, and the wreath form was $5.49, so this project cost me less than $10 to make. Easy peasy and done in about ten minutes.
