Sometimes inspiration can be found from the small things found in the tool section of Home Depot.
Recently I was in Home Depot with my husband, in the tool department of course, and saw this container for wood biscuits used for miter joints.
And inspiration hit me of how similar these look to leaves on a wreath. I went to Michael’s and found a simple wooden flat wreath frame. I used a glue gun to attach the biscuits to the wood frame in a leaf pattern.
I wanted to see how the wreath would look stained with gold accents so I applied two coats of Minwax Early American stain. However, I think this wreath would look good painted any color, especially all green, for the base coat.
I then randomly painted some of the “leaves” with gold metallic paint, but it just didn’t have the look I was hoping for so I added green paint on some of the leaves and then white paint. To finish off the wreath I added a bright red bow (my husband’s suggestion).
Honestly, I’m still undecided how much I really like how this wreath came out so don’t be surprised if I make some changes by next Christmas. Others seem to like it though so I have it on display in our kitchen for this year.
