I have wanted to update this large basket for some time but just could never figure out what color I wanted it to be. Â Thankfully I waited and now that we have new furniture in our living room, I finally figured out what color it needed to be and have a new project with some colorful basket painting.

A few weeks ago I posted about our  new – mostly brown – living room furniture, you can read about it here.  In the last couple of weeks I have been purchasing a few things online and doing some retail therapy to find new things to bring more color to the room (reveal coming soon I promise).
My budget though has been very limited since we are also renovating another room in our home and it needs most of any available budget. Â What do you do when the budget is tight? You find creative ways to re-purpose and update what you already have of course!

Sneak peek at the color of the new rug.
I have had this large basket for many years and have always used it as a magazine basket, and always overflowing magazine basket. I still intend to use it as a magazine basket, but it needed some color and updating to go back in the new space. Â A can of spray paint and some acrylic paints is all I needed to update this basket.

Some Colorful Basket Painting
For this project you will need:
- Wicker basket or any basket of your choice
- Spray paint in color of your choice. Â I used Rust-Oleum in Key Lime
- Metallic acrylic paint in silver
- Craft paint brush
This project is as easy as it seems. Â I applied two coats of spray paint to mostly the outside of the basket since that is the area people will actually see the most. Â I also spray painted the inside of the basket but I wanted to make sure the outside was covered first. After allowing that to dry, I painted the wooden handles of my basket in the silver metallic paint.
Such an easy and inexpensive way to add color to a corner of the room.
My very brown living room is coming alive with pops of color.

I have a brown basket similar to this and I was staring at it this week, wondering if there was a way I could paint it and get full coverage. Thanks for answering my question! I’ll be painting it soon! Thanks for sharing at the Home Matters Party! #HomeMattersParty
Thanks Sara. Good luck.
Great color choice! I love when you can repurpose something you already have, it’s usually my first solution before the stores. #HomeMattersParty

Spray paint is my newest best friend. I really like the bright green you chose for your basket, especially with the brown.
Enjoy the retail therapy and I look forward to seeing what you do to liven up the brown couches.
Enjoy your week. Leanna
