It is the beginning of the year and I am once again mostly working from home, by choice I might add.
While I am working from home, even on my own business, I find it is hard to turn it off. It is harder to set definite working hours or not have work overflow in to time you would have usually just enjoyed with family in the evenings or on the weekends while being at home.
Even though things are much better than they were two years ago when the pandemic first started, we are all still spending more time at home than we ever have, sometimes by choice and sometimes by necessity.
You may be wondering what to do and how to spend your time when you’re stuck at home.
If this is your situation, then continue reading to learn six ways to make the most of your time at home so you can be happy, productive, and feel good about what you achieve at the end of each day.
Instead of fighting it, you may as well embrace the situation and commit to living your life to the fullest even if you’re around the house more.
1. Set up an Office Space
One way to make the most of your time at home is to set up an office space.
I don’t know if you have seen the commercial where they show a large room that has the yoga space, an office space, and a homework space all in the same room, while the mother of the family is hiding in the basement having a panic attack. Have you seen that one?
An open floor concept for homes has been a trend for years thanks to fixer upper shows and magazines. However, that trend is fading a bit as more and more people need dedicated office spaces to actually get some work done.
You might work from home now more often or full-time and need a quiet place to retreat to during the day or in the evening hours. It’s also a nice space to have to pay your bills or make a phone call.
Take time to invest in the right equipment and comfortable pieces of furniture and decorate it as it suits you. Paint the space a color that helps you feel happy and allows you to be more productive and hang artwork and include plants and other natural elements and have plenty of lighting options.
Even better is if the space has a door that can be shut off from the rest of the house. When you close the door, the work day is done.
2. Create & Learn
Another way to make the most out of your time at home is to create and learn.
Teach yourself a new skill or engage in a hobby you’ve never tried before.
You may also find that spending time on social media is rewarding and exciting. Create by making videos of hacks you have to share that others might be interested in knowing more about. You may even gain so much attention and followers that you want to understand how to get verified on tiktok and ensure you’re viewed as credible and gain the most exposure possible.
Other ideas include learning to draw, paint, play an instrument, or take pictures using a professional camera.
3. Read, Rest & Relax
You can also make the most of your days and time at home by reading, resting, and relaxing.
Find good books that you can get lost in and build a reading nook area where you can go to have some peace and quiet.
Put your feet up and close your eyes and allow yourself to drift into a restful nap for a little while. You’ll wake up feeling re-energized and ready to tackle the rest of your to-dos. If you can, don’t be afraid to sleep in every so often as well because sometimes it’s what you need to feel more like yourself again and to remain mentally well.
4. Exercise & Indulge in Self-Care Activities
If you want to make the most of your time at home then consider exercising and indulging in self-care activities.
Get outside and surround yourself with all the benefits that nature has to offer by going for a walk, run, or hike.
Other ways to practice self-care around the house include taking a warm bath, sitting on your patio in the sunshine, or giving yourself a facial, manicure, or pedicure. Remind yourself that your health and wellness should be a top priority and that you should never feel guilty for making time for yourself. Instead, you’ll function better and be at your best when you make your personal needs a priority.
5. Clean & Minimize
You may be busy a lot of the time and not have the energy to get organized at home.
Therefore, when you have some free time you might want to work on cleaning your home and minimizing your belongings.
Challenge yourself to declutter your items and stuff room by room and see how much better your home looks and you feel when you’re done. Get rid of or donate what you no longer need or use and make room for what you love the most. Your place will look great and you’ll feel less stressed because you won’t be staring at a mess each day.
6. Have Some Fun with Your Family
Make the most of your time at home by finding activities to do and having some fun with your family members.
Gather your loved ones and play board games, watch movies, or bake in the kitchen. It’s a great way to grow a closer bond and enjoy each other’s company.
You may find you argue less and get along better when you entertain yourselves and spend quality time as a group.
