A House Divided – DIY Football Wreath For Two Teams

A few weeks ago, I shared a DIY Football Themed Wreath in support of our local University of Tennessee Vols team.ย  At the same time I made that wreath, I also worked on a larger wreath for my son and daughter-in-law.ย  She is not a UT fan and strongly supports her home state team, the University of Alabama.ย  He is a dedicated UT Fan. Game day between the two teams can be entertaining at their house. Even the kids get involved and usually wear an assortment of gear from both teams at the same time. Eventually the kids will be old enought to pick their favorite.

After I finished the first wreath, I tackled this DIY football wreath, featuring colors and signs for two teams, as a thoughtful gift to them both.

I have never made a football-themed wreath before because, honestly, I am not really a football fan. However, since my family members are dedicated fans, I decided to make not just one but two different football wreaths this year. They have the same sports vibe with the metal signs, but the second one is for a house divided on which team they cheer for.

Just like the first football wreath I made, I started with a grapevine wreath frame. This time, I purchased a 30″ frame to accommodate the design with two metal signs instead of one.

Assembling this wreath was the same as the first one. I used chenille stems for the wreath hanger on the back of the wreath, and hot glue to attach and insert the colorful fall leaf stems to the grapevine wreath. The metal team signs were easily attached with small black wire.

Since this wreath was much larger than the first football wreath, I added extra details by wrapping lengths of the green ribbon around the grapevine branches as accent pieces.

I made the bow a little differently, combining a total of five different ribbons.

The ribbon loops at the back of the bow is the bright green football field-themed ribbon. Next are several loops of both the UT orange and the Alabama crimson ribbons. A fourth solid white ribbon is next, topped with the ribbon featuring brown footballs.ย  The bow has tails from all five ribbons to showcase the details of all the team colors and the sport.

Although I’m not a huge football fan, I had a great time creating both of these wreaths for my family.

My son recently mentioned to me that he is finishing up a paint refresh project for their front door.ย  Now is the perfect time for them to hang this themed wreath during football season in their favorite team’s colors.
