Hello and welcome to the Modern on Monticello blog.
My name is Donna and I hope you visit for a while.
I have moved nine times since I got married, and have owned four houses.
My husband and I always seem to be drawn to older houses, mostly from the 1960’s and 1970’s. We envision updating and bringing out the beauty in these dated homes. So far we have tried it three times. The first was a learning experience, the second was an investment, and the third – well we are still living in the third dated mid-century house on Monticello Drive. We continue to work on our home little by little to bring this diamond in the rough to a new life, one budget friendly DIY project at a time.
Our fourth home is our first rental house that we purchased and renovated in 2017, The Bradford Street House.
I am a Nationally Certified Interior Designer.
What does that mean? Well basically I had to earn a degree in Interior Design and then work a lot of hours and pay lots of money to take a grueling two-day national certification test to prove that I knew how to do so much more than pick paint colors and pretty pillows.
But please don’t judge me by that title. I won’t bore you with design details or inflated ego opinions on “how to do it right”. What you will find is my love for DIY projects, thrift store finds and budget friendly style and I don’t think you necessarily have to hire an Interior Designer to make your home your own style.
These days I am blessed to put most of my energy into my own home. We plan to purchase more houses in the future to either flip or rent. Until then, join me as we convert our dated but unique mid-century custom built home in to a comfortable and stylish modern home.
I am a co-host for the weekly Home Matters Linky Party and contributing writer for a christian women’s magazine called Ruby for Women, and to several other blogs. Follow me on social media or by email for all new updates.
I am also a mom to two fantastic young adults, Mason and Miranda, both in their 20’s. Along the way you are sure to see lots of sneak shots of our fur babies and their adventures with us as we remodel our home.
