Everyone will enjoy this colorful trail mix recipe at your next party or gathering.
This week I will be taking a trip home to North Carolina to visit with my mom. When I travel alone I always take two snacks with me to help keep me awake while I’m driving. One is sweet and one is salty. My usual go to snacks are Jelly Bellies and sunflower seeds. But this week for my co-host duties for the Home Matters Linky Party link up we are challenged with compiling a round up of posts with a Mardi Gras theme.
I was a bit stumped on this one because I don’t really celebrate Mardi Gras living in the mountains of TN. Since I already had plans to make a trail mix for my upcoming trip, I decided to add some more colorful ingredients to the mix that would be perfect for any Mardi Gras celebration – or just to enjoy any time of the year.
While I was out shopping, I also stopped by my local Dollar Tree and found some bright and colorful decorations to display them in.

This recipe is so easy and is a great blend of sweet and salty. You will need:
- 2 Cups Pretzels
- 2 Cups Goldfish Colors
- 1 Cup Salted Peanuts
- 1 Cup White Chocolate Chips
- 1 Cup Honey Nut Cheerios
- 1 Cup Craisins
- 1 Cup M&Ms
Pour all ingredients in to a large bowl and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon.
That’s it! So easy and very tasty.

At the Dollar Tree store, I found some bright yellow ice cream cups and purple cups to pour the trail mix in. When I am traveling, I will cover the tops with some Glad Press’n Seal plastic that will be easy to remove while driving. The cups also conveniently store well in my car’s cup holder. My daughter commutes to school so these will work out well for her this week while she drives back and forth.
You don’t have to wait for Mardi Gras to enjoy this sweet and salty treat at any time of the year.

What a great idea to make a Mardi Gras trail mix. Seeet & salty is the best combination. #HomeMattersParty
