With all of the construction and remodeling in our home from the tree damage, we also replaced the sky lights in the front room so I had to clean off the military stuff off the mantel and have yet to put it back. A nice clean and empty mantel is just begging for me to decorate it this Christmas. I decided to finally try out a Pinterest project to make Cone shaped Christmas trees from cereal boxes.

I considered buying the ready-made styrofoam cones at the craft store, but instead found several great pins on Pinterest and combined the ideas to make my own from cereal boxes.
The first thing you will need to do is cut off the end flaps to the cereal box and open up the box to lay flat.
To create the shape of the cone, cut the cereal box with two sides square and one side rounded to form the bottom.
Bring the two straight edges together and secure with hot glue. If the bottom rounded edge of the cone is uneven, just trim with scissors.
I used several different items to cover my cone trees.
Fun and whimsical cone shaped Christmas Trees.
One is just simply wrapped in burlap fabric strips. Another I wrapped with a fabric swatch and cut to fit.
A third one I covered in extra puzzle pieces. I made sure to only use pieces with the most green color on them. This was not my favorite method in that I constantly burnt my fingers on the hot glue and the puzzle pieces just didn’t fit well on a round shape.
A fourth cone, I covered in Christmas ribbon in red, green, and silver.
And the fifth one I covered in a variegated colored yarn in creams, greens, and browns. This one is my favorite. The outcome of the colors is very unique.
These five cone trees are the first items for my newly decorated Christmas mantel.
