Creative DIY Decor For A Valentine’s Day Tiered Tray
This project involves repurposing small wooden items I originally purchased to make a Christmas or Winter wreath and creatively finding a colorful way to use them for a different holiday.
Since Valentine’s Day is still a winter holiday, so why not use what you have on hand?
Painted in shades of pink and red, these little wooden houses and wooden trees have been reimagined as decor for a Valentine’s Day tiered tray.

How I improvised to create seasonal decor for a tiered tray.
For far too long, I have neglected displaying seasonal decorations for my tiered tray.
I purchased it in the first place to have fun with miniature decorations. I so enjoy the charming look of miniature things, such as small modern chairs and everyday things, and a tiered tray is the perfect display for these collections.
This year, I challenged myself to decorate my thrift store vintage silver tray for every season, most festive holidays, and for planned special occasions as much as possible.
It’s easier said than done since I own none of the popular miniature-tiered tray decorations for any other holiday except Fall and Thanksgiving. So, I will have to start from scratch for every other moment.
For the second part of this self-imposed challenge, I will need to resourcefully find as many creative DIY decor options as possible that I can repurpose or reuse, especially with this season’s charming Valentine’s Day Tiered Tray.
I started with these little wood houses and trees.
It has been years since I made something creative for Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day is not a holiday I usually decorate for.
Unless one day I get lucky enough to find a thrift store bargain of vintage mid-century style decorations that someone’s grandmother has kept in a drawer for decades. Then, I would be more inclined to decorate for the yearly holiday.
The truth is that until I started working on a few crafty projects for this Valentine’s tiered tray last week, I had nothing to showcase the famous love holiday in my stash.
And I procrastinated too long to shop for alternatives. January was a packed month.
Instead, I repurposed some inexpensive wood craft pieces. Before Christmas, I purchased a bag of miniature houses and modern trees from Michael’s craft store to make a winter wreath. A wreath I never got around to making.
Since Valentine’s is a winter holiday, they are perfect for adapting their original purpose as winter decor for this holiday in shades of white and pink.
When you think about it, Valentine’s Day is easy to decorate for as long as you have craft supplies like paints in a mix of whites, pinks, and reds.
Each miniature wooden house was painted white with different shades of pink for the rooftops and accents like windows, doors, and hearts.
The tiny little wooden trees followed the same pattern of shades of pink and white.
I added some fun freehand scrollwork details to one of the little wooden trees, creating the swirls with a pencil and then painting them over with copper metallic paint. I also added random copper details to a few of the tiny houses.
A clear coat of spray polyacrylic gave each piece a protective layer of shine.
Other items I used for creative Valentine’s Day decorations for the tiered tray include – a small 3″ x 3″ canvas with a personalized message painted on it, a glass jar filled with red and pink beads, faux boxwood garland strands, faux flowers in white and pink from my stash, a strand of wood beads and twine, and two leftover wooden ribbon spools from the ribbon I used on the winter wreath last month. Sitting outside of the tiered tray are wood blocks I borrowed from my grandkid’s toy box.
This tiered tray celebrates the day of love in unexpected and creative ways. It combines different materials, such as wood beads, a glass jar, and jewelry beads, to create the necessary red color. The best part is that I didn’t spend extra money and had so much fun repurposing craft suppliesโsupplies used for different purposes than why I purchased them in the first place.
Beautiful and charming decor ideas can be created in so many different ways. Reimagining something with a fresh perspective and paint has given me a start on holiday decorations for my tiered tray that can be reused every year.
Pin For Later
If I were hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner this year, this charming little tiered tray would be perfect for a centerpiece. Combined with scattered paper hearts and rose petals on the table runner, it would be a lovely addition to the decorations. I will keep that in mind for next year.
Now that I have finished the tiered tray for Valentine’s Day, I can focus on tiered tray decor items for Spring, Easter, Summer, and even an upcoming baby shower celebration.
Hugs,

1 Peter 3:9 “not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for that very purpose that you would inherit a blessing.”
