I love finding inexpensive furniture at garage sales and giving them new life. I found this project for only $3 at a church rummage sale and with a little creativity with small tile pieces I was able to transform this small side table in to an easy DIY side table makeover to talk about.

A very functional side table but definitely nothing special. It has a metal frame and a frosted glass top.
I wanted to do more for this table than just spray paint the base.
Years ago I purchased surplus 1″ glass tile pieces online at modwalls.com. Their site is filled with beautiful tile photos for any modern bathroom or kitchen.
On their site you can also order bags of surplus tiles in a variety of colors.
I can’t even remember what craft project I purchased them for but I have several hundred of these beautiful 1″ inch tiles in a rainbow of colors and styles.

At first, I tried several of my own tile designs but never found one I like well enough to glue down to the top of the glass table.
I gave the project over to my daughter and told her to get creative with a tabletop design for this little side table.
This is what she came up with.

A beautiful cross design using most of the variations in colors.
It was a little tedious to get the tiles to stay in line during the gluing process, but the project itself was very easy. I used waterproof glue to attach each tile to the glass top.

Because the base of the table is hollow metal, I choose not to use grout around the tiles because I didn’t think the table could hold up the weight.
Either way, it is a new additional to our very colorful furniture in the screened porch room.

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and the rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
