A few months ago when we were updating our living room, I came across this wonderful sign on Wayfair that I wanted to include in the decor. As the budget, and especially time, were stretched very thin, I decided to quickly make my own version for the final room reveal. Today I am finally sharing this DIY sign with you.

I guess I could also call this project a thrifty project of using what you already have. Or a project to use up your craft stash. Either way, I created this little sign using only what I had on hand and a print out from my computer.
The original sign on Wayfair is much much bigger than mine of course. For my version I used a 12″ x 16″ canvas I already had in my stash and a black Sharpie marker.
“This is our happy place” DIY Sign
The first thing I did was to create the words on my computer using Word and print them out. I tried several different fonts and sizes until I found one I liked the best for the sign. Then I cut out each work and placed them on the canvas to make sure it would fit the width of the canvas. I then taped each one in place with blue painters tape.
The rest of the process is one I have used many times to create custom signs. I removed each word of the saying, applied colored chalk to the back of the word, put it back in place on the canvas, and then traced the outline of the word to transfer the chalk outline to the canvas. The final step is to fill in the chalk outline with the black Sharpie marker.
This DIY sign took about an hour to make and didn’t cost me anything extra except what I already had on hand.
