Easy and Chic DIY Boho Wall Art Decor With Floral Stems
Last Fall, my husband and I finally renovated our daughter’s old bedroom into a more hotel-room-type space for our son and his family, and for future sleepovers with all the grandkids.
The once purple-walled bedroom now has a king bed, twin bunk beds, and a mini crib. We finished up the last of the furniture setup about an hour before our son and his family arrived for Thanksgiving. They loved it! The grandkids loved their bunk beds, and their parents appreciated not having to share the king bed with kicking toddlers.
We were just thankful to get it done in time. But did we really finish the room?
The answer to that is no!
It has furniture, mattresses, new sheets, and even new lamps. What it is missing are the special decorative touches, like wall art and accessories, that complete a room.
The room has stayed this way through the holidays and the winter months. But now that Spring is peaking out from behind the clouds, I am inspired to finally give this room some personality, starting with this easy-to-make, DIY Boho Wall Art Decoration made with a simple wooden embroidery hoop, jute twine, and floral stems.

This room makeover had a different style and vibe than I usually follow.
Even though it is still very modern and clean-lined in style, this time we infused the room with a more boho feel, using sage-green walls and gray furniture to soften the effect of the adjoining all-black-and-white vintage-style bathroom. And no, you didn’t miss a reveal of this room because I haven’t featured it on the blog yet. It isn’t done!
But when I do reveal it, you will see a blend of soft color, grandma core accessories, and comfortable style. Starting with today’s craft project.
The Appeal of Boho Designs
I don’t remember where I first saw a similar project, but I know it is the perfect little boho accessory for the room. And the best part, it is inexpensive and takes less than 20 minutes to make.
The handmade appeal of bohemian decor, or boho decor for short, has made it a popular style in recent years. It is a free-spirited, eclectic style defined by natural materials, layered textures, and often a warm, earthy color palette. Think vintage furniture, handmade items like macramรฉ wall hangings, lots of live plants, and deeply saturated colors.
The bohemian style seemed too disheveled for me when it first appeared on the design scene several years ago, but over time, as it has continued to evolve, I have found I really like the laid-back appeal of boho style.
Our guest bedroom is the first area of our home where I am introducing boho accessories.

Let’s get started. For this project, you will need:
- 10-inch or larger wooden embroidery hoop
- Jute twine
- Small floral stems. Either more natural-looking floral stems or dried floral stems.
- Small grosgrain ribbon
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Scissors

Remove the outer hoop with the screw from the inner hoop. The twine will be wrapped around the inner hoop in several layers.
Starting at the outer edge of the inner hoop, attach the end of the jute twine to the hoop with hot glue.
Next, start wrapping the jute twine around the opening of the inner hoop, creating several stacked layers. My layers are about 2 inches high at the center of the inner hoop, as shown in the photo.

Once you have as many twine loops around the hoop as you desire, secure the end of the twine with hot glue and cut off any excess.
Place the outer hoop over the wrapped inner hoop and tighten the screw. Position the screw at the top of the hoop since this will be your hanging point.

I shopped for dried floral stems for this project, but wasn’t convinced I needed to buy them. Thankfully, at Hobby Lobby, I found some very realistic-looking small floral stems with sagey-green leaves, blue and white flowers, and yellow accent florals that beautifully mimicked the floral art on the wall in the adjoining bathroom.

Once taken apart, these small stems were perfectly sized to weave the stems through the jute twine strands. I was able to mix the different stem types and heights for a natural, organic look.

The final step was to create a small and simple bow with the off-white grosgrain ribbon from my craft stash and attach it with more hot glue. Cut the tails of the bow to whatever length you like.

Pretty and decorative and so easy to make
With some simple materials, the first decorative DIY wall art for our new guest room is done.
I am still considering sharing the full renovation of our guest room on the upcoming Spring One Room Challenge, so for now, I have only taken pictures of the finished wall art in a different room. When I finally share the full reveal of the room, I will be sure to point out where this easy DIY boho wall decor is hanging.

What I learned making this boho-inspired craft was that creating stunning boho wall art does not require a design degree or a hundred-dollar budget. You can craft eye-catching, gallery-worthy decor using simple floral stems and a few basic supplies.
While I am finishing the guest room renovation, I will continue to search for a variety of boho wall decor ideas to pull it all together. I am even relearning how to make macramรฉ for another of my handmade, creative wall decor ideas for the guest room. Wish me luck!

Donna, this is the sweetest addition to a room. And perfect for spring. I’m loving the blue florals. Pinned.
Thank you, Sue. I am considering making another one for a different room.
Donna, your boho wall decor is quite charming and skillfully made! I love it! But, not so happy about you replacing the purple color of your walls, lol! Just kidding! I’m sure the finished look will be both breathtaking and very impressive!!!!
Too funny Gail. The room was more of a magenta purple color and my daughter loved it, but I can say the new color is very calming.
Donna, this is such a clever idea and I really love how it turned out–pinned! Blessings, Cecilia – My Thrift Store Addiction
Boho has grown on me too Donna! Your wall decor is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see the final reveal!
Thanks Sara. I have found that relearning how to make knots is a challenge so my next DIY boho craft is taking longer than I would like. LOL
