Easy To Make DIY Spring Wreath

There is just something about the promise of a fresh new Spring season starting to blossom outside my door.  The lure of warmer weather inspires me to daydream about a new wreath full of silk flowers with a soft pop of color hanging outside my door to welcome the new season.

Also on my mind are some other warmer-weather projects, but I always seem to start with a need to create one or two new beautiful DIY Spring wreaths for my home decor to kick-start all of my warm-weather plans.

However, this year I have struggled more than usual to decide which type of new wreath to make.

It wasn’t from a lack of finding easy DIY wreaths and inspiration online or browsing my favorite shops like Hobby Lobby and Michaels which are currently full of Spring inspiration.  Pinterest is always such a great source for DIY Spring wreath ideas to choose from. 

I couldn’t make up my mind this time around.

Can anyone else relate?  Maybe I just had Spring wreath inspiration overload?  I’m sure it is a real thing.

Honestly, it was just that life has been so busy lately that it became a challenge to make an easy decision on even a simple Spring wreath to get started. 

As my evergreen wreath at the main entrance has been turning more brown and ugly by the hour, I finally just had to remind myself that it wasn’t a matter of creating the perfect DIY Spring wreath this year, but just to finally make one!

Finding a few of my favorite Spring flowers still available at Michaels last week combined with a wood bead wreath from my local dollar store, I finally pulled together this simple and easy-to-make DIY Spring Wreath to welcome in the new season.

A simple wreath with colorful faux tulip flower stems is one of my favorite Spring wreaths to create.

As I have mentioned several times in previous year’s post about my favorite Spring wreaths, every February our local Michaels stores have these amazing silk tulip bunches featured at a great price for only $1.99 each. 

Since I had delayed even starting a Spring wreath this year, I figured I had already missed the yearly sale.  Imagine my surprise when I visited the store last week and a few beautiful tulip stems were still available.

Buying the only 3 bunches in pink, I knew I had the perfect colors to start a new Spring wreath – finally!

This will be the first wood bead wreath I have ever made so I am trying a new DIY project.

Since Easter is so early this year, I decided to use some of the wood beads in my craft stash and create two beaded bunny ears for this wreath. 

This wreath will be something fun and different for me this year.

To make the ears, I used some 16 gauge wire from my craft stash and cut two lengths of wire at 14 inches each with wire cutters.  Since my beaded wreath form is only 10 inches in diameter, I wanted to create the ears at around 6 inches in height each.

So the first thing I did to make two wood bead bunny ears was to bend the 16 gauge wire into the shape of a bunny ear and twist one end of the now curved wire to the wire ring of the beaded wreath form. 

To accomplish this it helped to have the small jewelry-making pliers from my mom’s craft stash, but this wire is still easily bendable around the wreath frame wire without it.

Next, I very easily slid the selected wood beads onto the bunny ear-shaped wire until it was full, then finished it off by twisting the other end of the wire to the wreath frame. 

I repeated the same steps to complete the second bunny ear.  The result is a wood bead round wreath with adorable wood bead bunny ears.

Now I could start decorating my little bunny head with pretty pink flowers and a charming bow.

Out of my craft room ribbon stash, the best option I found for a small bow was just a plain roll of wired burlap ribbon that I probably picked up at Dollar Tree years ago. 

With the ribbon, I quickly made a small bow with three loops on each side with no tails and attached the bow to the wood bead wreath form with a small piece of pipe cleaner that I had cut down to size.

Of course, any bow for this type of wreath belongs between the bunny ears, and a burlap bow adds just the right amount of rustic charm to an already adorable wreath.

Before attaching the pink tulip stems to the wreath, I quickly cut small sections off each tulip bunch leaving each stem very short.  The look I plan to create with the faux flowers does not require very long stems.

Using a hot glue gun, insert the ends of the shortened tulip stems underneath the burlap bow and around the bunny ears.  As I added in more of the small tulip stems, I easily tucked them underneath the previous layer while cascading them down around the wood bead wreath and away from the bunny ears.

With just the cut tulip stems added to this wreath, this easy DIY wreath is already adorable, but needs a little something more.

Even though I really liked the first finished version of this pink tulip wreath, I decided that I wanted to add a bit more visual texture to the style of this wreath.

Back to my craft room, I grabbed a bag of natural raffia ribbon that I hoped would give just enough extra visual texture to add to this simple DIY wreath.

Pulling out an individual strand of the raffia, I looped it up and down several times into a small loose bundle and tucked one end of the loops among the tulip stems using more hot glue. I repeated this process several more times, each time tucking the bundles in random places amongst the stems.  Then, I clipped the exposed ends of the raffia loops with scissors and shaped the random pieces of raffia as needed.

I have to say that I love how this one turned out.  But I think I always say that every time I try a new wreath technique.

This adorable little bunny ear beaded wreath is one of the easiest wreaths I have tried to make in some time. 

Since making this wreath I have shopped online for other bunny wreaths and I made this simple DIY wreath at a fraction of the cost of purchasing one in a similar style. 

That wasn’t my goal when I decided to make this wreath but it is certainly a bonus!

It was fun too and a great way to spend an afternoon being creative on a rainy day. 

So if you are looking for an easy project to complete in very little time, this DIY Spring wreath is a great place to start.

My original plan when I started this project was to hang this wreath at my main entrance, but I am rethinking that idea.

Since it is much smaller than I anticipated, it may have a better home inside the house, while I tackle one or two other DIY Spring- or Summer – wreath ideas on my mind for the main entrance.
