Recently, I was asked to donate something from my business to a silent auction event for a scholarship fund at one of our local universities. Â I decided to donate something homemade and came up with this Farm House Style Thankful, Grateful, Blessed Wood Sign.

I know there are oodles of tutorials on Pinterest on how to paint wood signs, so in this post I will mostly share what supplies I used and share photos of where I started and how the final project came out.
Thankful, Grateful, Blessed Wood Sign Project
For this project you will need:
- Old piece of wood or new piece you can age with stain
- Acrylic Paints
- Craft Paint Brushes
- Chalk Paint
- Computer and printer to create template
- Colored Chalk
- Painters tape
- Ball Point Pen
I started this project with a leftover board from our old pool deck. Â (You know I couldn’t just throw these out or burn them). Â After cleaning up the board, I applied a thin layer of chalk paint in Old Linen in a dry brush technique.
I printed out a template for the words for the sign on my computer. Â After applying a layer of colored chalk to the back of the printout, I then positioned the words on the board, taped it down with painters tape, and traced around each letter with a ball point pen. Â This technique leaves an impression of the chalk behind on the wood.
Then I just painted the letters in black and orange acrylic paints. Â I decided the sign needed a little more character so I added on painted fall leaves and did some distressing to the wood.
And that was it. Â This project took me about 3 hours to complete, and free supplies I already had on hand. Â The best part, it helps a college student with scholarship funds. Â A win, win in my book.
Other Fall decor to consider:
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.” Â Â Â 1 Thessalonians 5:11
What a cute sign! Fall is probably my favorite season (I love all the holidays though). Stencils make things so easy. Thanks for sharing with me and the #HomeMattersParty 🙂

Cute sign Donna – great for Autumn and Thanksgiving time 🙂
I love this wood sign. It’s perfect for fall and Thanksgiving decor. The pretty leaves you painted on really make it pop. Stopping by from the #HomeMattersParty
Thanks. I wish I still had it but someone else bought it and gets to enjoy it.
I made my daughter a shirt (I think last year) with the same wording on it!! I love your sign!! I may have to make one for my house this fall. I have all the supplies on hand to make one.
Thanks Sheena
I really like this sign. It has more than one word on it and the added bit of leaves i the middle makes it pop.
This is so pretty! I like the tip about using colored chalk!
Thanks Tuula
I love projects like this. They add so much character to the home.
I love that you made this from an old piece of wood! It turned out beautiful, and I’m sure the lucky winner of the auction will be quite pleased to receive it. Thank so much for sharing at Mix it up Monday 🙂
