Now that my Pink Flamingo Flip Flop wreath has a new home in the screen porch room, I needed a patriotic wreath for the upcoming July 4th holiday – and beyond. A quick trip to the Dollar Tree and Walmart and I was able to find some simple decorations to use to make a bright and sparkly fireworks and stars patriotic wreath.

The trips to the two stores may have been quick and easy but the final look of this “simple” wreath was anything but easy. I probably took this wreath apart at least four times until I found a look I liked.
I don’t usually do flashy and shiny wreaths.
Most of the wreaths I have made in the past and featured on this blog have been made form burlap, pine cones, lots of plain ribbon, and more rustic materials. However, when I was purchasing the items for the flip flop wreath, I saw all these bright and shiny decorations for the 4th of July celebration and was inspired to give it a try.
At Dollar Tree I purchased a wire wreath hoop, three strands of shiny tinsel garland, a glittered covered plastic bow, and a door hanger with glitter painted bells.
I first wrapped the three strands of garland around the wreath form and secured the ends with bread ties. I know I am NOT the only crafter who collects bread ties from everything they can. You just never know when you will need them – right?!
Then I attached the glitter covered bow with another wire bread tie. I really wanted to use the door hanger but no matter how I tried to use it, even taking it apart and using the hoop as the wreath hanger – the glitter bells were just too much like a Christmas decoration. I decided to not use them at all for this project. More items to add to my stash.
So on a different trip to Walmart I browsed their holiday decorations and found the bag of large glitter star confetti. These were perfect just to add more bling and dimension to the already shiny wreath.
Little did I realize that you can buy wreath forms already covered in similar tinsel garland at Walmart in different shapes but I still spent less money buying each item and making this wreath myself anyway. And it was fun which is what crafting and DIY is supposed to be.
Some great Amazon finds as well:
Have a great holiday.
