Since purchasing my very brown living room furniture last month, (you can read about it here) I have been searching for some great deals on area rugs. Yes, that is a plural because I am actually in the process of updating two living spaces in my house. One is our well used living room, and the second is a more in-depth renovation of our front family room.
A few decisions I have made about the rug I will purchase is that it will have a modern or geometric pattern and will be in either orange or blue. This way the rug style will be more of a classic modern vibe and can be interchangeable between different rooms in my home if I find I don’t like them in either room, they can always be moved to one of the bedrooms.
The living room will be updated at a later time with a new floor and paint but for now I just need to give it some color. My inspiration colors for the the living room are a mix of browns, blues, and oranges. The room already has orange drapery so it just makes sense to keep those in the room and the adjoining dining room has orange walls. Most importantly, the budget for the living room makeover is limited. In fact, I’m challenging myself to keep the whole soft makeover for less than $200 for the rug and accessories so that I have more budget available for the front family room which needs more construction work.
If you have ever shopped for rugs, you know this isn’t going to be an easy task!
Currently these are the rugs I have been looking at online:

1. Wayfair Wayfair has some of the best selections and prices in geometric patterned rugs. And with free shipping, it saves me even more. |

2. Target
Target is one of those stores I just love to browse. They always seem to have the newest trends, great quality, and great values. |
|
3. RugsUSA.com
The prices and selections at Rugsusa.com are mind blowing. The best place to start is the clearance section. I found the rugs featured below at 90% off and one of them is 100% wool (very tempted to try it out!) And since they are on clearance I would be able to have more budget available for accessories. |
|
4. Allmodern.com
Of course as someone who loves modern design, allmodern.com is a great resource for rugs and accessories. |
|
5. Walmart.com
I know, Walmart is not somewhere you would consider shopping for an area rug, they are the place you buy your cat food and toliet paper after all. But Walmart.com has come a long way in the past few years. Walmart carries the Better Homes & Gardens line and have great prices on their area rugs. If you haven’t looked at Walmart.com in a while for home decor, I suggest they are worth a look. |

6. WorldMarket.com
I have only recently discovered all the goodness that is WorldMarket (I know I’m behind on that) but they finally have a store close to me. I have to pace myself though and not go too much – not good on the budget that way. They do give great discounts too. |

7. Hayneedle.com I once purchased a grill for a client from hayneedle.com so my mind tends to think of them as outdoor/garden items. I was so pleased to find such great selections on area rugs on their site. |

8. Amazon.com
And of course it goes without saying that you have to check out Amazon.com. It is hard to find anything that Amazon doesn’t have these days, and they don’t disappoint in the area rug department either. Below are some fabulous ones I found in blue and orange.
If you can’t tell, I’m really leaning toward a trellis design in either navy or orange. I think the pattern just goes so well with my modern house. What do you think? I would love to hear your suggestions on which one I should go with.

Having read this I thought it was extremely enlightening. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this short article together. I once again find myself spending way too much time both reading and commenting. But so what, it was still worth it!
