Home Matters Linky Party #521

Welcome to the weekly Home Matters Linky Party #521

A great place to come, share your blog posts and make new friends.

We are so glad you are here with us each week.

This week, my husband and I made a big decisionโ€”one made partly out of necessity and the other to move forward on the needed repairs and renovations for our home.

In the last few weeks, one of our HVAC systems needed to be repaired again or replaced.  We have lived here nearly 17 years and the systems are older than that.  So we decided that if we had to go through the chaos of replacing one, it would make more sense to replace both of them simultaneously.

Some of you already know how expensive this will be.

This hiccup in plans led us to the discussion that we were sitting on a nice amount of equity in our home.  The decision was that if we were going to access the equity, we would tackle more than just the chore of replacing two large HVAC systems.

On Monday, we will start the planning process for several significant upgrades this year, including two bathroom remodelsโ€”one that will include a roll-in shower so we can age effortlessly in this home, a new garage door, and a new exterior paint color.  You know I will be sharing it along the way on the blog so I hope you stop by often to see how we transform the look of our home once again.

As always, I am glad you stopped by this weekend to share your post.

  1. Thanks for hosting yet another fabulous linky party! Yes, I can commiserate with you ~ we had 3 AC units in various stage of “need” (built our house, but after 15 yrs., stuff happens…). Ended up replacing one, and just repairing the others ~ but needed a new hot water heater too (had 2 of them). THEN, when Texas as in single digits a couple of years ago, we had an indoor sprinkler system (required on homes over 5000sf), and a line to one broke, but fortunately over the garage. Still, it looked like a snowstorm in there, from the insulation that half-covered the cars! It’s always something!! ~ since last local grandkid is a senior in HS and others in college ~ no one stays at Nana’s & Papa’s anymore, so didn’t need all that room and moved last summer to a Del Webb home (only 1400 sf, so you can imagine how many boxes and tubs/bins we have stored to the ceiling in the garage!). It feels like a vacation home with all the activities and not all the yard & house work! ** Catch y’all again next week with Easter goodies.

    1. Thanks for sharing Cindy. Homeownership is not for the faint of heart. Sounds like you are enjoying the smaller home with less work. That is tempting. This is my fourth fixer upper house and I would really love to finish it this time around. The first one the military moved us, the second we upgraded to this one before completing our plans, the third one was a rental house that we almost finished but found a great buyer who wanted it as is. We know we will be in this one for the long haul so we need to make it ready for our later years. Hopefully. Thanks for visiting.

  2. Happy Friday! I am loving all the Spring posts, and I am so ready for it to be here. PA never seems to make up it’s mind! Have a wonderful weekend, and thanks so much for hosting the link party!

  3. Donna,
We took out a Home Equity loan when we put a new roof on in 2023 and then ear marked funds to replace our now out of code Federal Pacific Electrical box…Joe then became ill and passed away so I will just be getting that electrical box replaced this spring with a few other electrical upgrades…I did pay off the Home Equity loan using monies I received from life insurance that I initially invested in a CD to make some money on…Looking forward to seeing your renovations…
My Link Ups for today’s party are # 25 and 26!!

  4. We are looking at the same kind of renovations for our home in the next couple of years. I hope everything goes well and I’ll be following along for ideas and sending good thoughts your way.

  5. Thanks for having us over, Donna. I’m looking forward to seeing how you work thru your reno projects. We’ve had several, but never had to live with the projects in process. Have a great weekend!
