A close friend of mine does not serve the traditional Thanksgiving meal.  It has been years since they cooked a turkey for the holiday festivities. Wanting to experience different foods and traditions of other countries, their menu is based on a particular region or theme and each dish researched, planned, and prepared accordingly.

One year it was German cuisine, another Mexican, and of course, Italian food was a favorite. 

Each year, a different family member picks the theme. 

This year, when I asked what her plans were, she said her daughter decided to recreate a holiday meal featured in the Harry Potter books, complete with garlic mashed potatoes, pork, Pumpkin pastries, Pumpkin juice, and of course, Butterbeer.

I love that they have so much fun with it, and I am tempted to try serving a meal inspired by another country. But not for Thanksgiving.  I love my traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings. What about you?
