This week, I came across an Instagram post from House Beautiful about the exploding Summer trend called “Nonnamaxxing”, and it stopped me midscroll the moment I saw it!
Because, yes, I am a Nonna to my grandkids, but not the fancy Italian pronunciation of it. No, mine is the Southern drawl kind that sounds like my name, Donna – with just the N-sound at the beginning.
I had to find out more about this trend and what it means.
What I found explains exactly how I have been feeling lately. House Beautiful describes it as “all about enjoying the simple things in life, and designing our homes to match that sentiment”. It’s more about filling your home with things that bring you joy every day, and filling your days with those activities that make you smile.
Well done, House Beautiful, you have nailed the idea perfectly and with exactly the thoughts that I have been contemplating for weeks!
So, now that we are entering the Summer months and I just finished my deck makeovers for The One Room Challenge, I plan to enjoy the therapeutic activity of porch sitting, just like my grandparents did, as much as possible.
My goals this Summer are evolving away from chasing algorithms and clicks toward what has been quietly pulling at me for some time. And you might notice a gradual shift in my blog posts, too, as I lean into home life and what it needs to be now.

I am a Mimi but Nonna is pretty common here because this area is rich in Italian heritage and Nonna is grandmother in Italian….There is a resurgence in “Grandma Crafts” like crocheting, knitting and sewing…And Grandma Chic is the decor trend now too…
