How To Make Your Own DIY Spring Tulip Wreath
Every year in February, when I must be tired of old man winter, I get antsy to put up a new Spring wreath at my main entrance. Even though I see so many beautiful Spring wreaths available in the stores, I am still inclined to make my own DIY Spring wreath each year.
Over the years I have made different Spring-themed wreaths with faux florals and terra cottage pots, plastic eggs, faux greenery such as lamb’s ear, used grapevine wreath forms, and Styrofoam wreath forms. No matter what I use, making a new Spring wreath each year just seems to be the way I need to start my Spring decor.
Once I made my first tulip wreath using this simple technique that I share below, it quickly became one of my favorites.
With just some small tulip stems, and a roll of beautiful ribbon, this version of a Spring tulip wreath is a very simple wreath to make.

Luckily I shopped for this project right when Michael’s had their doorbuster sale going on for tulip bunch stems and I was able to score these beauties for only $1.99 for each stem.
I chose to make this version of a tulip wreath in the bright colors of yellow and orange because they blend in perfectly with my home decor.
However, I purchased tulip stems in many other colors at the same time so that I could make as many other versions of this beautiful Spring tulip wreath again and again.
For this project you will need the following:
- Tulip stems
- Ribbon
- Hot Glue
- 12″ Foam Wreath Form
- Chenille stems for the wreath hanger
These tulip stems sell out quickly at our local Michaels store and I have missed the sale in the last two years. If you can’t find them locally, you can also order similar items from Amazon.

Since these beautiful Spring tulip bunches are small, you will need at least 10-12 bunches to complete this wreath. And maybe a few more depending on how full you want the floral to be around the Styrofoam wreath form.
For this version, I used a simple 12″ Styrofoam wreath form from Dollar Tree mainly because wreath forms are a great bargain at Dollar Tree.

This type of tulip wreath will take a lot of small stems.
First things first, you will need to cut up each bundle of tulip stems into multiple smaller stems using floral wire cutters.
This is a very simple wreath to make as there are only a few small steps to attach the ribbon and the stems to the Styrofoam wreath form using a hot glue gun.
A similar floral wreath can be made for any season following these same steps with any choice of faux florals to match the current season.
So, let’s start this easy process to create this simple floral wreath.
Attach the end of the ribbon to the foam wreath form with hot glue and start wrapping the ribbon around the entire wreath form starting at the outer edge of the wreath through the inner ring to create several layers of ribbon. After you have established a few layers around the wreath form, add a dab of hot glue on top of the ribbon folds and glue on a tulip stem. Then wrap another loop of the ribbon on top of the stem to help hold it in place.
Lay another tulip stem on top of that layer of ribbon, secure it with more hot glue, and wrap the ribbon around the wreath form again moving along the entire form as you go.

Since I am right-handed I wrapped the ribbons towards the center and then to the left to create the folds needed to tuck the stems of tulips in. Every few wraps around the wreath form, I would add a drop of hot glue to secure the ribbon in place and the tulip stems if needed
Continue these same steps around the entire wreath form until you reach where you started. Even after you have wrapped the entire wreath form in ribbon and stems, because of the folds of the ribbon, you can easily insert more stems into the folds to create more volume and fluff to the faux florals.
The final result will be a full and lush-looking Spring tulip wreath.

The last step is to wrap a chenille somewhere around the wreath between the tulip stems to create a small loop to hang the wreath.
Even though I started this wreath to hang at an entrance to my home, I loved how this wreath looked hanging over my mantel instead so decided to make a second one for my main entrance in another set of colors.

Since I made this first Spring tulip wreath a couple of years ago, I have made several more versions for friends and family at their request, all using the beautiful small tulip stems from Michaels or Amazon.
If you would like to view them all in one post, I shared a roundup of all these beautiful spring wreaths in one post titled Easy Ideas To Make DIY Spring Tulip Wreaths.
Pin For Later
The quality of artificial flowers has improved so much since the stiff plastic ones we remember from our childhood.
Visit any craft store in early Spring and you will be greeted with an abundance of colorful flowers and faux florals that will entice you to update your Spring decor way before all the snow has melted.
Just find your inspiration style for a few Spring wreath ideas, purchase some flower stems, and create your own DIY wreath.
Because the Spring faux flowers won’t last long in the stores so make your new wreath early.
Hugs,
