It’s Football Time In Tennessee! – DIY Football Themed Wreath

I don’t watch football or even know the rules of the game.

However, my husband and kids do.  And my son-in-law and daughter-in-law are both Alumni of the University of Tennessee.  So, the UT Vols are the games to watch around here. My daughter-in-law is a strong supporter of her home state team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the rivalry and jokes between family members are always entertaining to watch.  However, that is a conversation for another post.

Recently, I was asked to make wreath bows at work featuring the latest arrival of ribbons with football themes.  These ribbons and other collegiate items from the Christmas store I work part-time at have inspired at least two different wreaths that I am sharing on the blog.

The first one is this Football Time in Tennessee-inspired grapevine wreath.

I make a new Fall wreath every year.

As per my tradition, I make a new Fall wreath every year.  This is the first time I have made a football-themed one for our house and the blog.  The inspiration, of course, was from these gameday-themed ribbons.

It has also been some time since I worked with a grapevine wreath form.  Although I appreciate the versatility of a grapevine wreath form, it presents some challenges when attaching items like metal signs.  Although not very heavy, the metal sign was not going to stay attached to the grapevine wreath for very long with just hot glue or E6000 glue.

Thankfully, the Tennessee Vols Football metal sign had pre-drilled holes for hanging.  I was able to easily use some black, small-gauge wire to attach the sign to the grapevine wreath and conceal the wire inside the vines.

I used my Deluxe EZ Bowmaker to craft a four-ribbon layered bow with tails from all four ribbons, creating a fuller and more interesting bow for this wreath.  My floral choice is long-stemmed, free-flowing stems in vibrant shades of Fall colors.  It wasn’t until I finished the wreath that I realized the shape of the stem leaves resembled footballs.  Such a perfect little accent for a football-themed wreath.

All of these pieces came together to create a colorful and fun TN Vols Football wreath for our back entrance.

  1. Donna, we love football (Go Cowboys) but also 5 different college teams to cheer for. Our SIL went to Alabama and our older daughter went to A&M so that makes for an interesting dynamic. I should make one of these wreaths for them with Crimson and Maroon together to keep the peace!
