Happy Easter Weekend!
Our weather forecaster – and the Farmer’s Almanac- say that East Tennessians experience “Little Winters” this time of year when it can be in the high 80s one day and below freezing two days later. Below are the descriptions I found on Google and local news websites:
- Redbud Winter โ Early April, when the redbud trees bloom.
- Dogwood Winter โ Mid-to-late April, when the dogwood trees bloom. Often, a heavy frost falls in dogwood winter.
- Blackberry Winter โ Early to mid-May, when blackberries are in full bloom. In the Tennessee mountains, this often coincides with the last frost of spring, which can kill new plantings on the farm.
- Whippoorwill Winter โMid-to-late May, when the whippoorwills can first be heard in the twilight of evenings and before dawn. Sometimes, this is reversed with Cotton Britches Winter.
- Cotton Britches Winter โ Late May or early June, when the linsey-woolsey (linen and wool) pants worn in cold weather were put away and farmers changed to the light cotton pants of summer.
Based on these dates and the fact that both Redbuds and Dogwoods are in bloom, we still have a few more days of winter weather in the mountains to experience for the next few weeks.
Some Michaels Stores will be selling Fabric!
If you are an avid sewer or crafter and have been concerned about the closing of all Joann stores, Michaels has just announced that fabric will be available in select stores.
There are lots of novelty fabrics available online as well.
If there is not going to be a Michaels store close to your home that will be selling fabrics, below are a few online fabric sites that also carry designer fabrics to check out.
Mother’s Day is May 11th.
Mother’s Day is fast approaching and if you have a mother, best friend, sister, daughter, niece, or daughter-in-law in your life that loves Gilmore Girls, then this gift list from Country Living is the place to start shopping.
Hope you have a blessed weekend!
