Patriotic Flower and Decor Arrangement For Wire Basket Table

For almost a month, I have been primarily focused on refreshing and improving my outdoor deck and porch areas for the Spring One Room Challenge.

My front porch will have a relaxed style that will be consistent throughout the warmer months. Our back deck with the covered porch will have a similar style aesthetic, but the accent pieces will change with the holidays and seasons throughout the year.

The back deck porch, which is also our main entrance, we use every day, will have a more playful, fun vibe as I change out the wreath and decor for the holidays. Especially for the Summer months from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July celebration, usually ending with Labor Day, with lots of Patriotic appeal. Because we are celebrating the American 250th Anniversary, I may leave up some small symbols of our American pride through Veterans’ Day this year.

Working to bring a fresh design to our outdoor spaces led me to this month’s craft project for the Creative Craft Hop. Using mostly what I already had on hand, I created a Patriotic Flower and Decor arrangement to display inside a wire basket table.

Adding decorations to a previous DIY project.

Several years ago, I purchased an outdoor wire basket and converted it into a side table by adding a custom-painted wooden top.

Since last Fall, the basket storage area of this wire basket table – as I call it – has been filled with large pine cones.

But I never planned for those pine cones to be a permanent fixture inside the basket. I have been thinking about some creative ways to fill it for each season or holiday. Starting with a way to showcase summer time patriotism.

At first, I considered using a small woven basket I made years ago, but it sat too high inside the wire basket to actually see the arrangement. Especially when the round wooden top was placed over it. Instead, I put a layer of brown paper on the bottom of the basket and green moss to cover a floral foam block.

Sitting atop the floral foam block is a small wooden house painted in the classic colors of red, white, and blue.

Faux greenery stems of ivy, boxwood, and simple green leaf stems are artfully arranged around the house and cascading out of the wire basket. Small floral accents of white flowers and seeded stems are joined together with a faded blue ribbon with white stars to create an old Americana arrangement.

The simplicity and symbolic colors of this arrangement are more about American pride and celebrating the joy of the American spirit. I was striving more for that old American quilt look rather than a party store patriotic look.

With more beautiful flowers in a painted mason jar, and a tall solar lamp atop the table, another piece of my outdoor deck refresh is complete.

Patriotic flower arrangements can be bold, sparkly, vintage, classic Americana, or even as bright as fireworks, and are the perfect Summer decoration. For this one, I decided that a subtle blend of greenery, white flowers, and the simple accents in the symbolic colors of red, white, and blue was perfect for our home.
