Twice a year my church has this HUGE rummage sale to raise money for missions. Â So much stuff gets donated that you can’t possibly see everything in the gymnasium and the tents outside on just one visit. Â Luckily for me this year I was helping out with the updates and painting of the church conference room and I got to walk through the aisles of fantastic finds every day during the week before the actual sale.
I was able to get this nice looking, and working lamp during that time for only $4.00! Â What a bargain and the classic look of this lamp can be used just about anywhere.
Unfortunately it had been dropped at some time in it’s lifespan and had this large, and very visible, crack down the column of the lamp. Â Fortunately for me, I am not the type to let a crack stop me from revamping this lamp into a cute makeover.

Thrifted Lamp Makeover
For this project you will need:
- Elmer’s Stainable Wood Putty
- Black acrylic paint (or any color you need)
- Decorative ribbon
- Fabric Glue
- Straight pins
Since the column of the lamp was wood, it was very easy to repair and disguise the crack with wood putty and black acrylic paint.
This lamp is a pretty basic black lamp that is great to have to go in almost any room. Â I could have just repaired the lamp and called this project done, but I felt like it just needed something more.
I considered several times of painting the lamp in another color but I really do like the lamp in black. Â Instead, I decided to give the lampshade some little glitz and fluff just for fun with an adorable bright orange ruffle trim I found at Hobby Lobby.
It was easy to attach the ribbon to the inside of the lampshade using the fabric glue and the straight pins to hold the trim in place while the glue was drying.
Now this lampshade has a whimsical tutu looking detail that makes this lamp more feminine than masculine as a plain black column lamp. Â If I change my mind about this look, I can either easily remove the trim or just buy another lamp shade. Â I can foresee that this lamp will be used in other places in my home as I continue to change things around – and yes that will always be a thing in my house.
Until the next project,
“Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; Their faces will never be ashamed.”
Psalm 34:5
Wow, big improvement!
Love the look!

What a great makeover. Our church has a yard sale twice a year, it’s a great time to find some fun project ideas for me! #HomeMattersParty
I so agree. I only go to look for projects.
That really turned out great. It’s amazing what the ribbon does for it.
Thanks for sharing at Waste Not Wednesday.
Thanks Kimm
Looks awesome! Thanks so much for sharing with us at the To Grandma’s house we go link party last week – you will be featured in the next party starting tomorrow morning!
Hi Donna: Great job of covering the crack, with all the different curves on the lamp you did an amazing job of filling it in cautiously so it didn’t require so much precise sanding. You taught me a new method.
Adding the simple bit of ruffled lace to the bottom made it one of a kind and it no longer looks boring off the shelf. Huge improvement.
Thanks for visiting Leanna
