My home has four full bathrooms, each with it’s own style and personality. The ugliest of the bathrooms was in the basement. Time for a trendy basement bathroom makeover.

This year I have plans to update at least 3 of the 4 bathrooms in my house. Two will be small makeovers, and the third will be a larger renovation with wall repairs and new flooring. That makeover might not make the final list this year because of time and money.
Basement Bathroom Before
The basement bathroom was basically a small white room with a concrete floor.
It was plain and white, with no personality and the original paint peeling off the concrete floor. Since my teenage son used to live in the space, he really didn’t care how the bathroom looked as long as it functioned.
Since we moved in to this house, I have dreamed of the day I could make this small bathroom a much prettier and trendy space.
When Photowall.com reached out to me about using one of their many products in a update in my home, I immediately looked on their site to find some fun and modern wallpaper for an accent wall.
Even though I have worked with Photowall.com in the past and received some beautiful canvas prints, one that I used in my master bathroom makeover, this time I decided it was time to try something new.
To be honest, the basement bathroom wasn’t my first choice for this project or this wallpaper.
I really wanted to update my daughter’s former bathroom first – but her pet rabbit had done more damage to the walls than we realized. This bathroom was her roaming place and she chewed through some of the sheetrock on the walls underneath the bench that we didn’t realize until too late. Pets can be destructive.
The time frame to repair the sheetrock and our work schedules to get it done just didn’t work out for that project at this time.
So the next room on my list was the plain and all white basement bathroom. I am so glad I chose to do this room instead!
In 2015, when a tree feel on our house, it damaged the master bathroom in our house and the basement bathroom below it. So this plain little bathroom has gotten a small makeover in the past.
The ceiling was repaired and painted and the walls were painted. All in white. Since our insurance was paying for the repairs we didn’t get choice to make it a little prettier than just white paint. We instead had to put extra money of our own elsewhere in the master bedroom.
It was definitely time for this plan white box of a bathroom to get some new life!
Basement Bathroom After
Honestly, I have never hung wallpaper before.
As an Interior Designer I have specified wallpaper for many projects, but would hire someone to actually hang it. I know my limitations and matching up pattern repeats and working with wallpaper paste was not one of my DIY goals in life. I respect those who make it happen.
In the end, I liked this wallpaper enough to give it a try.
Let me just tell you, hanging wallpaper from Photowall.com was so easy!

Each panel is custom printed to the dimensions of my wall based on the specifications I entered on their website.
When the rolls of wallpaper arrived, each panel was separated with easy to follow cut lines, and each panel numbered for the order in which you need to hang them from left to right on the wall.
They also included the wallpaper paste with my order.
In about two hours, my husband and I were able to mix the paste, cut out each wallpaper panel, and hang each panel on the wall in order of the numbers on the panel.
The pattern repeat matched perfectly from one panel to the other.
There was no guesswork on how to match up the pattern repeat or how to keep it going across the width of the wall.
For a designer who has never installed wallpaper in her own home because of the work involved, I am now a confirmed wallpaper enthusiast and will chose wallpaper from Photowall.com again.
The basement bathroom makeover was a fun project to finally get done.
This fun and trendy gray wallpaper was the biggest part of the transformation of a plain white basement bathroom. It gives the small basement bathroom the trendy character it so desperately needed.
Our basement bathroom makeover also included a stenciled concrete floor, a new light fixture, new accessories and white baseboard trim. I will revisit the DIY project for the stenciled concrete floor in another post.
