Door Prep, and Weather Delays
Welcome to a combined post for weeks 5 and 6 of the One Room Challenge!
My original plans – on paper – were to share an exciting post about the transformation of the three exterior doors for our porch refresh. Then I shifted that idea to week 7 and was going to fill you in on the outdoor lighting progress and installation for weeks 5 and 6. Which didn’t happen.
A week of heavy rains, a sick dog, and tedious paint removal on two of the doors has left me feeling very far behind. I am sure I have battled those same thoughts every time I join this challenge.

Heading towards the final weeks…
After taking a deep breath and reassessing, I realize our project is still progressing in other areas despite the rain delays and the struggle with removing the old paint finish from the exterior doors.

- The too-small area rug on the back porch has been replaced with a better-fitting one.
- The damaged wood tops of the picnic table and benches have been sanded and restained.
- New house numbers have arrived.
- All of the new solar lighting was selected, ordered, and has arrived. They just need to be installed.
- Additional outdoor pots were purchased and filled with bug-repelling plants such as rosemary, lavender, basil, peppermint, and marigolds.
- Patriotic decor has been added to the back porch for the Summer months.
- 95% of the back porch plans are complete.

As we enter the final two weeks of this Spring’s event, our biggest challenge is the prep work and painting of two of the exterior doors. Our front door, with its carved details and at least 7 layers of paint, primer, and old stain, has been the hardest to remove.
The weather forecast for this week shows many days of sun and warm temperatures, so we should be able to finish up the doors for week 7!
More updates next week,
