We have bonded over the years with the couple next door over the love of dogs.
They have always tolerated so well how our four dogs bark at everything, especially their dog Kona as they walk her during the day.
We have always admired how well trained and calm that Kona has always been.
This week they lost their beloved Kona to an aggressive cancer that she couldn’t fight due to her advanced age. They don’t have human kids so Kona has been their baby for fourteen years.
She was definitely a special dog.

Their loss this week prompted a conversation between my husband and I about how we need to honor their love for their special dog with a gift.
Flowers just didn’t seem to be the thing to honor Kona.
For the first time ever, I did an online search for gift ideas for the loss of a pet, and I was quickly surprised how many varied and beautiful items you can purchase to memorialize the unconditional love and the hard loss of a pet.
I know this is not my usual type of post, but definitely one that touches my heart.
With every loss of one of our pets, I try to keep a small memory keepsake of them whether it is a small sign, or a Christmas ornament or just their collar in a box.
Pictures of course are my favorite so I make sure I take many pictures of each of my goofy sidekicks during the year.
If you are wondering what gift we decided on, it will be a windchime. They are avid nature loving gardeners and Kona was always in the garden with them.
However you decide to remember a beloved pet, I hope these gift ideas help you find a way that makes you, or someone you know, smile with the memories.
Hugs,
